Q&A: Is it possible to have 2 separate (differently designed) websites hosted under the same hosting account?

Question by dylan.galletly: Is it possible to have 2 separate (differently designed) websites hosted under the same hosting account?
I have hosting for one website but have just bought another domain for a separate business. I am wondering if I can simply host this new domain under my existing hosting plan? Or will I have to pay for separate hosting for this new domain?

You have two options.

If you have two 2nd level domains (for example web1.example.com and web2.example.com), then you can set it up under one hosting plan. It gets set up in your .htaccess file.

If you have two 1st level domains (for example www.example.com and http://www.Maxi-Pedia.com), then yes, you need two hosting plans. However, if you can fit both your websites into the space that you have allocated for your first website, you can usually make a deal with hosting provider in a sense that the price for your two domains is less than price for two hosting accounts. In this case, they just create another folder in your existing account and make some changes in their config files.
